RIO DE JANEIRO -- Less than a week before the opening of the Olympics, IOC leaders will meet in Rio de Janeiro this weekend to review the final preparations for the games and deal with the fallout from the doping scandal that has led to the exclusion of more than 100 Russian athletes. The International Olympic Committees ruling executive board opens a two-day meeting on Saturday, its last formal gathering before next Friday nights opening ceremony at the Maracana stadium. The meeting comes less than a week after the IOC board decided not to ban Russias entire team from the games because of state-sponsored doping. Rejecting calls by more than a dozen anti-doping agencies for a complete ban on Russia, the IOC left it to individual sports federations to vet which athletes could compete or not.Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said Friday that, so far, 272 of the countrys athletes had been cleared by international federations, out of an original team of 387. More than 100, however, have been barred -- including the track and field team banned by the IAAF and more than 30 other athletes rejected under new IOC eligibility criteria.Russias eight-member weightlifting team was kicked out of the games on Friday for what the international federation called extremely shocking doping results that brought the sport into disrepute. The IOC has been roundly criticized by anti-doping bodies, athletes groups and Western media for not imposing a total ban on Russia. Pressure for the full sanction followed a World Anti-Doping Agency report by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren that accused Russias sports ministry of overseeing a vast doping conspiracy involving the countrys summer and winter sports athletes.Bach has defended the decision as protecting individual athletes from collective punishment. This is a decision we just had the opportunity to discuss with some athletes, Bach said in Rio. I think the general feeling is that it is appreciated that, on the one hand, we are sanctioning a (doping) system, but on the other hand we have given athletes who were not part of the system the opportunity to demonstrate this and then to be allowed to take part in the Olympic Games.Rios preparations, meanwhile, remain clouded on several fronts, including budget cuts, raw sewage that pollutes the sites of rowing, sailing, canoeing, open water swimming and triathlon, slow ticket sales, and concerns over crime and the Zika virus. The games come with the president awaiting an impeachment trial and the country gripped by a severe recession. The Australians and at least eight other Olympic teams complained this week about their accommodations in the athletes village, citing plumbing leaks, electrical faults and dirty conditions. On Friday, Australian athletes and staff had to be evacuated from their building after a small fire broke out in the basement. They returned safely after about 20 minutes.Bach remains publicly upbeat. In the end you will see a fantastic Olympic Village and great games, he said. The Brazilians will overwhelm all of us with their passion, with their joy of life, their great hospitality, and with their energy. The full IOC will hold a three-day session next week, starting Tuesday. A top item on the agenda is Wednesdays vote on a recommendation to add five sports to the program of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics -- baseball/softball, surfing, karate, skate boarding and sport climbing. The proposed sports -- backed by the executive board and to be voted on as a package -- would add 18 events and 474 athletes to the program. An IOC program commission report released on Friday said the five sports are a blend of the traditional and emerging, youth-focused events, and all have international and local appeal.--This story has been corrected to show that skate boarding not roller skating is one of the 5 proposed new sports for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Nail Yakupov Jersey . A big centre with all the tools to be an elite player, Johansen paced the Blue Jackets with a standout game Saturday night. He had a goal and two assists for a career-high three points as Columbus beat the New York Islanders 5-2 to snap a five-game losing streak. Nicolas Meloche Jersey .Y. - General manager Billy King says the Brooklyn Nets are looking to add a big man and confirmed the team worked out centre Jason Collins, who would become the first openly gay active NBA player if signed. http://www.authentichockeyshopavalanche.com/Rene-Robert-Jersey/ . The giant slalom world champion slipped during her first run in the morning, landing on her back and then twisting forward before getting her leg caught in the protective material on the side of the slope. Peter Forsberg Jersey . On Saturday night, the normally free throw-challenged centre did just that. Howard scored 18 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, including 13 of 19 free throws in a 2 1/2-minute stretch, and the Houston Rockets beat the Denver Nuggets 122-111. Joe Colborne Jersey .S. -- Nikolaj Ehlers registered a hat trick for the third straight game and Jonathan Drouin had a goal and five assists as the Halifax Mooseheads hammered the host Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10-1 on Tuesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Six or fourDaniel Worrall seemed to be having a decent start to his international career, before Paul Stirling decided to make things more difficult for him. Stirling had already sent John Hastings over the boundary and then charged at Worrall in an attempt to do the same. Stirling hammered the ball back over Worralls head and seemed to have cleared the rope, but it was given as four. Close-ups showed that Stirling may have been robbed of two runs, but the statement he made was no less powerful.Caught or grassedMitchell Marsh could have had John Anderson when the Ireland No.3 edged to second slip, but the area was left vacant. He could have had Anderson again when he pulled a short ball to fine leg, which was being guarded by Scott Boland. Boland had to dive forward to pluck the ball before it made ground, but he didnt seem convinced that he had taken the catch cleanly. Some replays suggested he had, but with the benefit of the doubt going to Anderson, Marsh was denied again. Not out or out After a strong start, Ireland were wobbling and Sean Terry only worsened their situation with lack of awareness off the first ball he faced. Terry was hit on the pads by Daniel Worrall, who turned to deliver a prolonged appeal. The ball was with Austrralia captain Steve Smith, who saw that Terry had left his crease while the appeal was ongoing, and reacted quickly to throw the ball onto the stumps and find Terry short of his ground.ddddddddddddaught or grassed II Irelands fielding had let them down against South Africa on Sunday, and it did not seem to have improved over the two days. Their first chance came early, in the fourth over, when Usman Khawaja top-edged a pull off Barry McCarthy. Peter Chase had to run in from long leg to take the catch. While he got to it and had the ball in his hands, it then popped out. There was no doubt, it was definitely grassed.Pain but no gain With the match out of Irelands grasp, all they may have wanted was things to end quickly and fairly painlessly, but they were not even spared that. McCarthy attempted to show some football skills in fielding a Steve Smith drive in his followthrough, but went after the ball with the arch of his foot instead of doing so flush with the heel, and hurt himself instead. The ball squirted towards the non-strikers end, but Khawaja was alert to what was happening and made sure he was safe.
