But Britain rated only third, behind the United States and New Zealand, in the Lowy Institute poll, the results of which were released on Tuesday.
The poll by the Sydney-based institute asked respondents to nominate Australia's 'best friend' from a list of six countries.
About a third, or 35 percent grossiste air max belgique , nominated the United States, and about another third, or 32 percent, New Zealand.
These two and Britain ranked well above China, Indonesia and Japan, with only 11 percent choosing any of these nations as Australia's 'bestie.'
The poll was conducted in the lead-up to the Australia-UK Asia Dialogue grossiste air max chine , which the institute is jointly convening, to assess Australians' attitudes towards Britain.
It found more than eight in 10 Australians see the relationship with Britain as important, with 28 percent saying it is "very important."
Australians' warmth towards Britain has been a consistent feature of Lowy Institute polling, with Britain scoring a warm 77 degrees on its 'thermometer' of feelings towards other countries of the world in 2013.
This warmth was based mainly on a shared history, with two- thirds citing "strong historical and cultural ties between the two countries."
Only 26 percent said it was because Britain was still a major economic and strategic power, while long-standing sporting rivalries between the two countries was seen by only 5 percent of Australians as the reason for the relationship between Britain and Australia being important.
Lowy Institute executive director Dr Michael Fullilove said it was an opportune time for Australia and Britain to focus on their relationship and shared interests in Asia and beyond.
"Our aim is strengthen our countries' efforts to engage with the region that is becoming the world's economic and strategic center of gravity grossiste air max pas cher ," he said.
Sir John Holmes, director of fellow dialogue convenor, the Britain-based Ditchley Foundation, said: "Both countries have plenty of expertise, but we come at the issues from different geographic angles. We aim to bring these complementary views together much more systematically."
This new annual Asia Dialogue was announced by the Australian foreign minister and the British foreign secretary at the Australia-UK ministerial (AUKMIN) meeting in March.
The first round is being held at Ditchley Park in Oxfordshire, Britain grossiste air max , from June 16 to 18, when experts and policy officials from the two countries gather to share perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in Asia, across strategy, economics and diplomacy.
The dialogue will provide policy recommendations to the Australian and British governments on steps they can take to advance their national interests in a changing Asia.
The Lowy Institute Australia-UK Poll reports the results of a nationally representative telephone survey of 1,207 respondents aged 18 years and over conducted by Newspoll between May 2 to 4, 2014. The approximate error margin for the poll is 2.8 percent.
