option and not afraid to pass -- Chris Carter Antworten

PITTSBURGH -- Adam Frazier is an unlikely source of power. The Pittsburgh Pirates 5-foot-10 utilityman had hit just three home runs in his first four years of professional baseball coming into Sundays game against the Philadelphia Phillies. But with the game tied in the seventh inning, Frazier sent an Edubray Ramos fastball into the right-field seats to lead the Pirates to a 5-4 victory. It was up and in and I figured he was coming back with a fastball after just missing with two off-speed pitches, Frazier said, while noting that he got a scouting report from his time playing with Ramos in the Arizona Fall League in 2015. I got my hands to it and got the barrel out front. The 407-foot pinch-hit homer was not only his first bopper in the majors since being called up June 24, it also was his first at any level since Sept. 5, when he was with Double-A Altoona. He hit just three total minor-league home runs in the Pirates organization since being drafted out of Mississippi State in 2013.I was pretty excited to see the ball clear the fence, he said. In a tie game, I was just trying to do whatever I can. It was pretty big.Making his second appearance since a trip to the disabled list for a fatigued shoulder, Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon struck out seven batters in six innings but was also hittable at times. He surrendered four extra-base hits, including solo home runs by Odubel Herrera and Andres Blanco, which allowed the Phillies to build a 4-2 lead.Pirates manager Clint Hurdle credited Taillons maturity for him to allow big hits early but remain focused and effective. He made some mistakes and he paid for them, but he kept us in the game and he really didnt fold or go away, Hurdle said. He stayed on the aggression throughout the outing. The Pirates comeback started in the sixth inning, when Starling Marte lead off with a double to center and Matt Joyce sent a first-pitch fastball from Philadelphia starter Vince Velasquez 434 feet off the batters eye beyond the centerfield wall. The home run was the 10th of the season for Joyce, his most since 2013 despite only having a part-time role. He is slugging a career-high .563 on the season, after posting a career-low .291 mark in 2015 with the Anaheim Angels.I felt (when we got him) we got a good, plum ballplayer that could bounce back and have a good season, Hurdle said. I didnt think about numbers. Obviously, these are eye-catching numbers. Hes leading the team in home runs at home. In the role hes playing, thats pretty impressive, as well. Good for him. Hes worked hard and this is part of the game you love as a coach.Joyce also walked and scored as part of the Pirates two-run second inning. Marte led off the inning with a single and Elias Diaz drove him in with a groundout to record his first career RBI. Sean Rodriguez then drove in Joyce with a double to center. The Phillies scored a pair off Taillon in the third when he gave up a leadoff single to Velasquez. Cesar Hernandez drove in Velasquez with a triple off the wall in center field and then came around to score on Herreras groundout.Mark Melancon pitched the ninth inning to record his 30th save, the third most in the National League. He became the first Pirates pitcher to have three consecutive seasons with 30 or more. He led the big leagues with 51 saves in 2015, and his 114 saves since the start of 2014 are the most in the majors.Ramos took his first career loss to fall to 1-1. Fraziers homer made a winner of Pirates reliever Neftali Feliz, who is 4-0.The game was delayed an hour and 32 minutes by a thunderstorm in the bottom of the eighth inning.TRAINING ROOMPhillies: Blanco left the game with a fractured left index finger after applying a tag on Gregory Polanco at third base in the fifth inning. Polanco was attempting to steal third. Blanco took the throw from catcher Carlos Ruiz in plenty of time and tagged Polanco, who contacted Blancos glove with his foot. Blanco was replaced by Maikel Franco. It was Francos first action since being removed from Fridays game after being hit by a pitch in his wrist. He went 1 for 2 at the plate. ... Catcher Cameron Rupp did not play as a precaution after being hit in the head with a pitch Saturday. Concussion tests done Saturday night and before the game Sunday were negative.Pirates: Right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow was placed on the 15-day disabled list before the game with right shoulder discomfort.UP NEXTPhillies: Jeremy Hellickson (7-7, 3.84 ERA) will start a three-game set in Miami. In his last seven starts, hes walked just seven batters and has a 0.98 WHIP while lowering his ERA by half a run. The Phillies enter the series 9 1/2 games behind the Marlins for the final NL Wild Card spot.Pirates: Francisco Liriano (6-9, 4.96 ERA) will begin a two-game series against the Seattle Mariners after an off day Monday. The Pirates have rearranged their starting rotation to keep Liriano and Gerrit Cole on as close to five days of rest as possible during a stretch where they have four days off in a three-week span. Carey Price didnt, but he still came out on top against one of his rivals for the No. 1 job at the Sochi Games. The Anahim Lake, B.C., native was stellar in making 39 saves in his home province and Lars Eller got credit for a bizarre short-handed winner as the Canadiens defeated the Canucks 4-1. http://www.wildjerseyscheap.com/?tag=matt-cullen-jersey .com) - The red-hot Los Angeles Kings will try to extend their winning streak to a season-high seven games when they visit the Edmonton Oilers for Sundays clash at Rexall Place. Devan Dubnyk Jersey . "Four now," Carl Gunnarsson told the Leaf Report proudly following a 5-2 victory over New York on Tuesday night, the clubs fifth straight at home. Marcus Foligno Jersey .C. -- Chris Thorburn thinks one of the reasons the Winnipeg Jets have been successful under new coach Paul Maurice is that theyre playing together as a team. WEST POINT, N.Y. -- When Army walked off the field last December after another loss to archrival Navy, the Black Knights had their fifth double-digit-loss season since the turn of the century. When Amy walked off the field on Saturday, it almost seemed the past was prologue.Andy Davidson rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns, the Army defense created two more turnovers, and the Black Knights beat Rice 31-14 on Saturday for its second straight win to open the season.Army already has matched its win total from last year as third-year coach Jeff Monkens system has begun to show signs of success.I am proud of our team. I am proud of our players, our coaching staff and the effort they put in to give ourselves a chance today to win. Monken said. I think our guys are playing really hard. Theyre playing together and with great effort. Youve got to execute, and weve found a way to do that.It had been 70 games since Army (2-0) won two in a row, and its the first time the Black Knights have started a season with two straight wins since 1996. Ronnie McAda led that team to nine straight wins and a national ranking to start the season. It feels great. I dont even know how to describe it, Army quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw said. Its a great feeling to know weve done something that hasnt been done in a while. The Army offense finished with 348 yards rushing as its triple option continued to perform at a high level -- it has not had a turnover in either game, the first time thats happened in consecutive outings in three years. The Black Knights had 329 rushing yards in last weeks season-opening 28-13 win over Temple. That was a breakthrough moment of sorts, and they continued to ride the momentum from that game against these Owls on a sweltering day at Michie Stadium.Rice (0-2), which opened the season with a 46-14 loss at Western Kentucky, continued to falter offensively. After striking early -- Tyler Stehling hit tight end Connor Cella for a 64-yard touchdown on Rices third play from scrimmage -- the Owls struggled the rest of the game. Subtract that long gain, and Rice managed just 98 yards on 23 plays in the first half and fell behind by two touchdowns. The Army defense entered the game tied for the national lead in turnover margin and late in the second added another takeaway. Sophomore linebacker James Nachtigal hit Stehling from behind as he was about to throw and Andrew King recovered for the Black Knights at the Rice 35. Linebacker Jeremy Timmpf added his sixth career interception late in the third, Armys fourth of the season.ddddddddddddRice broke through a second time midway through the third quarter after pinning Army deep in its own territory. A 26-yard punt by Armys Nick Schrage gave the Owls the ball at the Army 37, and Austin Walter burst up the middle for a touchdown on the next play to narrow the deficit to 21-14.Unfazed, the Black Knights marched back down the field after the ensuing kickoff and scored again, with the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Davidson bulldozing his way through the defense. He broke two tackles at the line of scrimmage in a bruising 22-yard run and capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard scoring run.Army is a good team, Cella said. They came to play and we didnt. Offensively, we did not have a good week of practice and you could see it on the field.THE TAKEAWAYRice: The Owls have to find some sort of offensive consistency as Army held the ball for 40:12. Stehling, a senior, is starting for the first time in his career and displayed a nice touch on the TD throw to Cella. But aside from the two touchdowns, Rice did not drive inside the Army 20. Stehling did display a nice kicking touch, squibbing a 41-yard punt to the Army 1 early in the third quarter that led to the Owls second TD.Army: The Army defense shined in the victory over Temple with three interceptions. It was burned for the early score by Rice but settled down and pitched a shutout the rest of the opening half. Thats two straight games the defense has risen to the occasion, and with two quarterbacks capable of running the option and not afraid to pass -- Chris Carter also played -- and a linebacker-turned-fullback in Davidson able to generate an inside game, Monken has the Black Knights pointed upward.BY THE NUMBERS: Army outgained Rice 414-289 and had 23 first downs to only 12 for the Owls.QUOTABLE: It was an extremely tough loss. We came here and expected to win. -- Rice coach David Bailiff.FEEL THE HEAT: Temperature on the Michie Stadium turf was 114 degrees at game time and up to 120 in the fourth quarter.UP NEXT:Rice: The Owls host Baylor on Friday night.Army: The Black Knights begin a three-week road trip with a visit to UTEP next Saturday.---AP College Football Website: www.collegefootball.org---Follow Kekis on Twitter: www.twitter.com/Greek1947 Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Black Jerseys Wholesale NFL Gear Cheap Stitched Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys 2018 Wholesale Nike NFL Jerseys White NFL Jerseys Cheap ' ' '
