BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins have signed forward Brad Marchand to an eight-year, $49 million contract extension. The team announced the deal on Monday as Marchand prepares to play for Canada in the finals of the hockey World Cup.The 28-year-old Marchand, who could have become an unrestricted free agent next summer, had a career-high 37 goals and 60 points last season. In seven NHL seasons -- all with the Bruins -- he has 153 goals and 136 assists.Boston has become my second home, Marchand said. I really believe in our team and our group and what were working towards.General manager Don Sweeney said it was important to commit to Marchand long term.We got to the finish line and its been really good for Brad and for the Boston Bruins, Sweeney said.Marchands recent play for Canada has opened eyes across the league. Playing mostly on a line with Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby and perennial Boston Bruins linemate Patrice Bergeron, Marchand is second to Crosby in World Cup scoring with five points and is tied for the tournament lead with three goals.Canada will face Team Europe in the best-of-3 finals starting Tuesday. The exposure and to be able to play on a team with these caliber of players, its incredible, Marchand said about playing for Canada in the World Cup. When you get that confidence to know that you can play at that level, it feels really good, for one. And it pushes you to another level.Marchand was a member of Bostons Stanley Cup-winning team in 2011, with 11 goals in the playoffs, the second-most on the team. Marchand started that season, his rookie year, on the fourth line. By the end he was skating among the Bruins top six forwards. He would have been a coveted player had he hit the open market in 2017, especially after his breakout performance on the World Cup stage.Right now where is with Team Canada, hes also very respected by his teammates for the way he prepares, the way he plays and everything else, said Bruins coach Claude Julien, who is serving as an assistant to Mike Babcock with Canada. So hes come a long ways.Marchand might have more room to improve, making the contract a better value for his bosses. He would tell you that he wants to score 40 goals, Sweeney said. The term, the way Brad is trying to get better each end every year, speaks to the commitment on both sides. Vladimir Guerrero Angels Jersey . "Trying to breathe," he said with a grin. Bernier stopped 42 of 43 shots on Monday night, including all 22 in a hectic middle frame, his heroic performance propelling the Leafs toward an undue point in their final game before the Christmas break. CJ Wilson Jersey . To the surprise of many, it isnt the Wolverines but their in-state rivals the Michigan State Spartans. https://www.cheapangels.com/ . Jeff Green scored 13 points and Kris Humphries 12 for the Celtics, who nearly blew an 18-point, second-half lead. Sullingers 20-20 was the first by a Celtics player since Kevin Garnetts first game in Boston in 2007. Garnett was dealt -- along with Paul Pierce -- to Brooklyn during the off-season. Ty Buttrey Angels Jersey . 1 position. The Mustangs (6-0), who beat Queens 50-31 last weekend, earned 17 first-place votes and 287 points in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada. Western was last ranked first in the country in October 2011. Tommy La Stella Angels Jersey . The Swede became the first golfer to win the PGA Tours FedEx Cup and European Tours Race to Dubai in the same season. "It is still taking a little time to sink in what Ive achieved this week as was the case when I won the FedEx Cup but then it just kept getting better and better as the days went on and I am sure this will be the same," he said. Star Melbourne AFL midfielder Jack Viney is ahead of schedule in his recovery from post-season hip surgery. The 22-year-old is back running, doing one-on-one skills and some agility work and is confident the hip issues he carried this season are behind him.Im probably a week ahead of schedule - its all going really well at the moment, Viney told AAP.Were ramping up the loads, going from not doing too much to increasing quite quickly, so were on track to hopefully be back in the main group at the start of December.Viney was on crutches at the clubs best-and-fairest awards where he claimed his first Keith Bluey Truscott Trophy just a week after the home-and-away season ended. We finished on the Saturday against Geelong and I was in for the operation on the Monday morning, Viney said.We had it scanned a week before the last game and they decided Id benefit a lot from the surgery.Ive had a bit of a dodgy hip for a few years now and probably, halfway through the year, it just kept getting worse and worse. But IIm really happy with how its going.dddddddddddd.The Demons are also taking a cautious approach with former Essendon players Jake Melksham and Michael Hibberd, easing the pair back into pre-season after their year on the sidelines for anti-doping violations. Its a bit of a different situation in that they havent been in a football program for 12 months, performance manager Dave Misson told the clubs website. We dont want to throw them to the wolves and into the football program straight away without getting a real handle on where theyre at.They need a little bit more base work, but I think theyre going to be fine and were looking for them to be full on into the program probably post-Christmas.(But) hopefully, theyll join in with the group before then.Talls Tom McDonald (shoulder) and Cameron Pedersen (shoulder) and utility Aaron vandenBerg (ankle) are also on modified programs.
