I’m really looking to the 2019 season.I didn’t quite feel the same way last year.Don’t get me wrong, I was hopeful about the Super Bowl LII winners trying to repeat as world champions. But the 2018 offseason felt so short. As I sat in my press box seat prior to the Eagles’ Week 1 game against the Falcons, I couldn’t help but think how it didn’t feel like the 2017 season was truly over. That feeling only intensified over the course of that game. Nick Foles was starting under center. Foles caught a pass, not unlike he did against the Patriots in Minnesota. A low-scoring game against Atlanta once again came down to Julio Jones failing to catch a pass in the end zone. Just uncanny.Of course, the similarities to 2017 would not end there. Carson Wentz would suffer another season-ending injury that would have Foles quarterback the Eagles during a playoff run for the second in a row. It felt like the underdogs were going to shock the world again. Alas, it didn’t happen. The 2018 season officially came to an end shortly after a Foles pass went right through Alshon Jeffery’s hands. Unlike the conclusion to every other Eagles season after 1960 and prior to 2017, however, there wasn’t the same kind of anger when it was all over. There was natural disappointment, surely, but there was also something that previously wasn’t present: a sense of pride. A feeling that this team cannot be counted out moving forward. Because even when adversity has struck, Doug Pederson’s team has found a way to respond with their backs up against the wall. Foles was undoubtedly a big part of that resiliency. And he’s gone now. He’ll be missed, especially if Wentz goes down for a third time in three seasons. But the Foles departure also symbolizes a fresh start for the Eagles. 2017 and 2018 felt like one big, long season. 2019 is an entirely new chapter as Philadelphia moves forward with Wentz as their undisputed franchise quarterback. The way I see it, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about Wentz’s outlook. He’s healthy now. He’s working with one of the best offensive supporting casts in the league. He’s already formed a strong connection with the ever-dynamic DeSean Jackson. The Eagles made offense look so hard at times last year. Moving the ball down the field was like pulling teeth. That should be different in 2019. Jackson’s field-stretching ability alone makes a big difference. Then add in the likes of Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, Nelson Agholor, JJ Arcega-Whiteside in the passing game. Not to mention a running game that should be better with Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders in the fold. On defense, the Eagles should have enough to at least field a competent unit. I have some concerns about the depth at defensive end but I do think the interior defensive line is going to generate a lot of disruption. There are unsettled spots in the secondary that Jim Schwartz needs to figure out but it’s not like the team is totally devoid of talent there. There’s youth and potential. Look, it’s way too easy to be optimistic about everything now. This is the time of year where most NFL fans are envisioning their favorite teams as Super Bowl contenders. It won’t take long for that feeling to fade if/when things go wrong early in the season.I know there are those who get nervous when people start putting big expectations on the Eagles. There’s been a lot of talk lately that the 2019 squad is arguably better on paper than the 2017 team. The pressure is on and not everyone loves that because they’d rather the Eagles be the underdogs. And I get it. You have some concerns about the team. You’re used to disappointment. You’d have a lot more fun seeing the Eagles exceed expectations than failing to meet lofty goals. If that’s how you feel, fine. But when I look at this team, I can’t help but see a legitimate Super Bowl contender. It all just comes down to Wentz’s health. If he can stay on the field, the Eagles should be in pretty good shape. If not Reggie White Jersey , well, they’re screwed. And if that unfortunate outcome materializes, I’ll cross that bridge of disappointment when it arrives. For now, though, I’m feeling excited. Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...Report: Eagles called Broncos about several of their players - 247SportsWith just one week until the trade deadline, the Philadelphia Eagles are calling around the NFL in hopes of improving their roster. The Denver Broncos have plenty of players the Eagles have inquired about over the past few days, namely cornerbacks Bradley Roby and Chris Harris Jr.., along with wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. ”They’re calling around, they’re casting a wide net,” said CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora on CBS Sports HQ Monday. “They reached out to the Denver Broncos about a couple of their corners. Chris Harris Jr. and Bradley Roby, Emmanuel Sanders and DeMaryius Thomas. Denver is trying to get teams to take Thomas off their hands. ”I expect them to rekindle with the Steelers about Le’Veon Bell with a conversation or two this week before the team leaves for London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars this coming weekend.Adam Schefter: “I think the Broncos are more sellers than buyers.” - Mile High ReportSchefter’s thoughts backup reports that came out on Sunday that said the Broncos were open to trading veteran wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. Other reports and rumors also name linebacker Brandon Marshall, cornerback Chris Harris Jr., and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders as other Broncos players reportedly on the block.Report: Eagles reach out to Cardinals about Patrick Peterson - BGNThe Philadelphia Eagles have been “working on ways to land Patrick Peterson for weeks and reaching out to the Cardinals,” according to a report from NFL insider Jason La Canfora. This news is especially relevant following the ESPN report from earlier today that Peterson is “desperately” requesting a trade prior to the league’s October 30 deadline. At the Podium #7: Doug Pederson Goes on the Attack - BGN RadioIt’s that time of the week to hear what the Eagles’ coaching staff and star quarterback Carson Wentz have to say about the Eagles stunning 21-17 loss to the Panthers.. Doug Pederson goes on the attack when his play-calling is questioned, Wentz says it’s not time to be pissed off, and much much more in this triple decker press pod!Eagle Eye: Examining The Fourth-Quarter Defense - PE.comI’ve seen a lot of chatter on social media about how the Eagles were in “prevent” defense late in the game. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The Eagles played the same kinds of coverages that they had played all game long. On what became the game-winning drive for the Panthers, the Eagles called four straight plays of press man coverage across the board. They were aggressive and forced three straight incompletions, one of which was nearly picked off by Darby along the sideline. On the fourth-down play, Mills fell down at the top of the route, and his man broke wide open. That’s obviously not what Mills or any of the players or coaches were hoping for, and Smith made them pay. He gained 30 yards to get the Panthers in scoring range.Barnwell picks NFL contender flaws: Which teams can fix issues? - ESPNDarby and Mills are a mess. In the fourth quarter on Sunday, Darby gave a 10-yard cushion and was still badly beaten on a sluggo route for a touchdown by Devin Funchess. On the critical fourth-and-10 conversion that extended the game, Mills wasn’t able to sustain coverage on Torrey Smith and then failed to tackle him, turning a 12-yard completion into a 35-yard catch-and-run. These are not isolated examples. Mills was the primary defender in coverage on three completions of 50 yards or more from Weeks 2-5. Darby missed a tackle on what became a 75-yard O.J. Howard touchdown and has been isolated for two touchdowns inside the 5-yard line.NFL Week 7 Sunday Standouts: Offense - PFFKey signature stat: Averaged 4.06 yards per route run. Speaking of Ertz, the Eagles’ tight end continued his string of impressive performances against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Ertz caught all nine of his catchable targets on the game for 138 yards. He picked up receptions when lined up as an in-line tight end http://www.eagleslockerroom.com/authentic-malcolm-jenkins-jersey , in the slot, and out wide. That kind of versatility makes Ertz a mismatch weapon, and it shows in his slot production. No tight end has more slot receptions on the season than Ertz’s 32.The Six Plays That Changed NFL Week 7 - RingerJeffery, who had offseason surgery to repair his rotator cuff, has been mostly unguardable in his first four games back. Sunday, the 6-foot-3, 218-pound pass catcher grabbed seven balls for 88 yards and a touchdown, which came on a second-quarter isolation route and gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead. Jeffery, who also had a leaping fourth-down sideline grab and caught a deep bomb, has emerged as more than just a complementary piece of a balanced offense. Despite the loss, he’s racked up 12 touchdowns in the past 17 games that Wentz has started and is looking like a dominant no. 1 receiver for the Eagles. His chemistry with Wentz has reached a whole new level. This could be the beginning of a beautiful quarterback-receiver relationship.Ellen & Jon Dorenbos Surprise an Inspiring Philadelphia Eagles Fan - Ellen TubeEllen and her friend, former NFL pro Jon Dorenbos, surprised Ben Hartranft, a 20-year-old, high-functioning man with autism. Not only is Ben a huge fan of Jon and his former team the Eagles, Ben is also an Ambassador for the Philadelphia Eagles Autism Challenge, which raises money to support autism research. Thanks to Shutterfly, Ellen and Jon were able to help Ben’s fundraising efforts through a magic trick you’ll never forget.Amari Cooper trade to Cowboys is actually pretty good for Raiders - Silver And Black PrideAs a fourth overall pick, he was ultimately a disappointment. He lacked the aggression needed to be a true number one receiver and thus was consistently inconsistent. This season alone, outside of those two 100-yard plus games, he disappeared almost entirely. To get a first round pick for his level of production is solid return. Right now the Cowboys are sitting at 3-4 on the season, coming off a 20-17 loss to division rival Washington. They’re hoping Coop will be the missing piece to their offense. If he’s not, and they continue to hover around .500, they would likely miss the playoffs, making the return a mid-round pick. To take an underwhelming player you drafted in the top five and get a pick 10-15 spots lower four years later is not too shabby. Especially when you consider Coop will have just one more year left on his rookie contract after this season. Let’s be honest; Coop never developed into the player the Raiders drafted him to be. He was rarely a gamebreaker and averaged a mediocre six touchdowns per season. They got good return for that. The Peterson Calculation - Revenge Of The BirdsA prolonged dispute with Peterson is only going to put a damper and potentially an albatross around the neck of what needs to be a fresh new face for the organization moving forward. Peterson’s mind is made up. He wants out. And the way Peterson’s mind works——he will get what he wants Womens Jalen Mills Jersey , one way or another. Which is fine—-as long as Michael Bidwill makes it a win-win for both parties.Dolphins seeking mid-round draft pick in exchange for DeVante Parker - The PhinsiderDespite conflicting reports, it appears the Dolphins might be willing to part ways with DeVante Parker for the right price. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Dolphins are indeed willing to trade DeVante Parker but will not move on from the enigmatic pass catcher for anything less than a third-round draft pick. Dolphins head coach Adam Gase has previously told reporters that the team is not actively shopping the former first-round pick, but multiple reports have mentioned that Parker is on the trade block.Giants made the right call to go for two - PFTBottom line: The numbers favor the approach. And that’s why Shurmur did it. If the Eagles hadn’t done it 15 days ago, the level of confusion from Joe Tessitore, Jason Witten, and Booger McFarland would have been understandable. Post-Eagles, there’s no reason to be confused as to why a team that scores a touchdown while down 14 points goes for two. It’s one thing to have a different opinion, even if the statistics don’t support it. It’s quite another to be clueless as to why a team would go for two in that spot.Blake Bortles is an issue for the Jaguars, but they didn’t do him any favors - Big Cat CountryIf you look back at how the Jaguars approached the offensive side of the ball, it’s kind of stunning. I think we can all agree that Bortles falls in the below-to-average area of quarterbacks in the NFL and he needs success around him to do well. He will have a few spikes where he just shreds a team when everything goes right, but if stuff around him is failing you’re going to see him really struggle. He’s just not a guy who’s going to elevate those around him and that’s fine. You can win with those guys, but you have to really insulate them from being relied upon. That’s somewhere the Jaguars failed this season. I recently wrote about how the injuries for the Jaguars shouldn’t be the cause for tanking the offense, and I still stand by that, but when you couple those injuries with the gambles the front office took this offseason, it’s clear why you’re getting what they’re showing on offense. The Jaguars must be sticking with Blake Bortles for one reason: London Bortles - SB NationOn the other hand, Bortles in London is a different animal. He won’t have a long leash for the Week 8 game at Wembley Stadium, but if he plays at all like his last three trips overseas, the Jaguars will be just fine. In the Jaguars’ most recent trip to London, Bortles threw 244 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 44-7 win against the Ravens....Social Media Information:BGN Facebook Page: Click here to like our pageBGN Twitter: Follow @BleedingGreenBGN Manager: Brandon Lee Gowton: Follow @BrandonGowtonBGN Radio Twitter: Follow @BGN_Radio
