BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana, mired in a three-game skid, is sticking with quarterback Richard Lagow.Hes the guy, coach Kevin Wilson said Monday when asked if Indiana would open up practice snaps for other quarterbacks.Lagow has been inconsistent at best and worse than that recently as the Hoosiers (3-4, 1/3 Big Ten) have fallen behind by double digits in the first halves of each loss. Indiana trailed 24-3 at intermission against Northwestern and lost 24-14.The offenses inability to get going early really hurt the defense, Wilson said. I dont think our defense had the time to make the adjustments. We get a quick three-and-out, they score, then we go quick three-and-out and they score again.Maryland (5-2, 2-2) visits Indiana on Saturday. The Terrapins have outscored opponents 54-14 in the first quarter and 133-66 in the opening half. This Indiana team doesnt resemble any from Wilsons recent past, when the Hoosiers were known for scoring in bunches but giving up even more than that on defense. This years defense is allowing 377.6 yards per game, 131.9 fewer than last year -- the largest improvement in the nation. But Indiana is just 96th out of 126 schools in scoring at 24.1 points per game. Lagow, a redshirt junior in his first season as a starter, has completed 147 of 246 passes (59.8 percent) for 1,975 yards with 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Hoosiers are 118th in that latter category.Sophomore wide receiver Nick Westbrook, who caught 10 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown against Northwestern, suggests Indiana will spread the ball around to get more players involved. And he insists its the little things that have held back the Hoosiers. One of the plays was when Rich missed me on a speedout, and it was a little thing on my part, Westbrook said. I was a yard or two too deep. It looks like Rich threw a bad ball, but its really my fault. Its a little thing that I have to pay attention to and be disciplined about.Indiana began October at 3-1 with a 24-21 overtime upset of No. 17 Michigan State. But the remaining games loom large for the Hoosiers: If Indiana can defeat Maryland, games at Rutgers (2-6, 0-5) and Purdue (3-4, 1-3) offer the opportunity to return to a bowl game for a second consecutive year, which hasnt happened since 1990-91.Yeah, obviously, we want to get the ball rolling, said senior guard Dan Feeney, who returned Saturday from a four-game absence with a concussion. We beat Michigan State and then have lost the next three. Its obviously not where we want to be. Weve got to strike fire and get the ball rolling in some way, shape or form.Junior defensive end Greg Gooch says his teammates are upset about their current situation.Oh, there is some anger built up, he said. I feel like every game is a must win. Every game is critical.Note: The Nov. 5 Indiana at Rutgers game will have a noon kickoff and be televised on the Big Ten Network.---Online:AP College Football site: http://collegefootball.ap.org/ Authentic NBA Jerseys Store . Its nearly impossible to count the ways Jessica Luther is changing the landscape of sports. Her work has directly served fans, students, players, coaches, university administrators, law enforcement officials and fellow journalists by putting all of us on notice for the myriad hypocrisies and injustices to which we contribute in big-time, big-money sports, particularly when it comes to sexual violence. And while its also nearly impossible to narrow down her impact, Jessica has perhaps most meaningfully served survivors in a culture that tends to discard them altogether.Last year, along with co-author Dan Solomon, she blew the lid off a major sexual assault scandal within Baylor athletics, resulting in an administrative fallout and the effective firings of head coach Art Briles and university president Ken Starr. Her reports in Texas Monthly exposed the widespread and brazenly ignored rape culture on campus and the coordinated effort to minimize and cover up a multitude of accusations. But her impact extends far beyond Waco. For years, Jessica has covered similar cases from every corner of the country. She has forced us to acknowledge the blind eye weve all turned toward sexual assault by athletes and the systems in place designed to shield them from scandal. In September, her commitment to exposing the dynamics of power and violence within college football culminated in the publication of her first book, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, a sobering, powerful, necessary read into the ways in which every aspect of our sports culture excuses men who do terrible things, simultaneously demonstrating that this is by no means limited to the gridiron. That its not just a campus problem or a football problem -- its an American problem. What makes Jessicas work so effective isnt just her relentless attention to detail, her willingness to ask the questions nobody dared to before, her meticulous parsiing of police reports and legal documents and witness testimony and case law.dddddddddddd Its her empathy in approaching these stories, in interviewing these victims, not to mention the astounding strength it takes for her to continue to do so. It can be overlooked -- but not overstated -- just how much of an emotional toll it takes on journalists to cover such cases of systemic abuse over and over again, hearing firsthand accounts of pain and violence and seeing the same patterns of behavior often followed by little progress from the time before. As a survivor of sexual violence myself, Jessicas work in this space has been an emotional bedrock. As both a survivor and a journalist, her friendship has been invaluable. Shes constantly giving advice to me and to other writers on how to properly cover sexual violence, reminding us that its not just about the athlete, that theres a victim at the other end. She could teach a clinic on how to balance sensitivity with objectivity.Where the criminal justice system continually fails accusers, Jessica Luther continues to serve them. Shes leading the charge for institutional reform, calling on universities and publications alike to hire more women to change whatever locker-room culture may be used to excuse rampant violence. As her work continues to demonstrate, its not all just talk.More on Jessica Luther? Luther: Football coaches cant just stick to sports Story ??
