n, but [there are] some things that we have to cl Antworten

Baseball is returning to the Olympics in 2020. The question now is who will be playing. With the Summer Games falling in the middle of the major league season, the sport has never been able to produce the kind of best-against-best spectacle that Olympic hockey and basketball have. But even if that remains the case, there will undoubtedly be some big names taking the field at the Tokyo Games. It just might take a few years before baseball fans really know them.Baseball was a full medal event at the Olympics from 1992-2008, and it was a demonstration sport before that. In 1984, Japan won the gold medal game, beating a U.S. team that included Mark McGwire and Will Clark -- both of whom were a couple years away from their big league debuts. At the Seoul Olympics in 1988, the Americans avenged that loss when Jim Abbott beat Japan in the title game.Heres a brief chronology of Olympic baseball since it became a medal sport in 1992:Barcelona (1992): Jason Giambi and Nomar Garciaparra were part of this U.S. team, but the Americans were drubbed by Japan and Cuba and failed to win a medal. The Omar Linares-led Cubans took the gold.Atlanta (1996): Home-field advantage only meant so much for the U.S., which lost 11-2 to Japan in the semifinals and had to settle for bronze. Cuba beat Japan 13-9 for the gold, with Linares hitting three homers in the title game.Sydney (2000): Cubas Olympic dynasty was finally upended when the U.S. knocked off the two-time defending champions 4-0 to win the gold. Professionals were allowed in the Olympic tournament for the first time, but the conflict with the major league schedule meant the Americans still had a relatively unheralded roster. With Tommy Lasorda managing, Ben Sheets allowed one earned run in 22 innings, and his three-hitter in the final gave the U.S. the title.Athens (2004): The U.S. didnt even make it to the Olympics to defend its title. The Americans were eliminated in qualifying, and the gold medal went back to Cuba, which beat upstart Australia in the final. The Aussies had upset Daisuke Matsuzaka and Japan in the semifinals.Beijing (2008): The last Olympic baseball tournament for a while ended in dramatic fashion, when Cubas Yulieski Gurriel -- who signed a $47.5 million, five-year contract with Houston last month -- hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. South Korea held on for a 3-2 win and the gold. There were plenty of future major leaguers playing in the 08 Summer Games. Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched for the champion South Koreans, and the bronze medal-winning Americans had Stephen Strasburg and Jake Arrieta.Japan failed to medal despite having Yu Darvish, Masahiro Tanaka and Norichika Aoki. Here are a few developments from around baseball this past week:STANDING ALONEAlex Rodriguez is set to play his final game for the New York Yankees on Friday, and David Ortiz has announced hell retire at seasons end. If those two are indeed done after this year, then Albert Pujols will be the only remaining active member of the 500-homer club. The 36-year-old Pujols is at 581. The closest active player below 500 home runs is Miguel Cabrera at 433.FANTASY FOCUSNow that the trade deadline is out of the way and players are settling in with new teams and perhaps new roles, the next big issue to watch down the stretch is innings limits. Weve seen teams exercise caution with young pitchers in ways that can affect their fantasy value.Torontos Aaron Sanchez, the AL ERA leader, hasnt been moved to the bullpen yet, but the Blue Jays are clearly being cautious with him, using a six-man rotation. Detroits Michael Fulmer will also be monitored carefully.LINE OF THE WEEKBaltimores Manny Machado homered in the first, second and third innings, driving in seven runs in a 10-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. That flurry of power gave the All-Star third baseman a surprisingly reasonable chance at a four-homer game, but he went hitless in his next three at-bats.---Follow Noah Trister at Jullian Taylor Womens Jersey . A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain. Dante Pettis Womens Jersey . -- Adam Snyder returned to the San Francisco 49ers this season because the offensive lineman thought it was his best opportunity to win a championship. METAIRIE, La. -- Jrue Holiday couldnt hide his enthusiasm after his first practice with the New Orleans Pelicans this season.Holiday spent the past three months tending to his wife, Lauren, who gave birth to the couples daughter in late September and underwent surgery one month later to remove a benign tumor from the right side of her brain.Holiday said Thursday he is excited to play in his first game this season, Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers. But he was more thrilled that his wifes recovery was far enough along that both felt comfortable with his return.Asked why he was returning now, Holiday said, Because my wife said I could. It was really just to see where my wife was in her recovery. And since shes doing so well, and since my daughters getting bigger, and since my family and her family are there to help her out with anything ... I just feel comfortable being back and being able to leave them, if its on a road trip or whatever it is.As hard as it is, again, Im really excited.Lauren Holiday -- formerly Lauren Cheney -- was a longtime member of the United States womens national soccer team.Jrue Holiday respectfully declined to give specifics on his wifes condition, or where she and their daughter, Jrue Tyler Holiday, will stay during the season. Holiday, 26, said FaceTime will allow him to see his familys progress during Pelicans road trips. The Holidays found out about Laurens condition this summer. They relocated to the Raleigh, North Carolina, area, near the Duke University medical specialists who handled the surgery. My wife was, I think, four or five months pregnant, and all of a sudden she found out she had a tumor, Holiday said. Because she has another person in her, obviously there are things she couldnt do for them to know what type of tumor it was or how serious it was.Holiday said he was able to see peoples true colors in such trying times, and the reaction from fans and the Pelicans organization has left him feeling blessed. He said the Pelicans, from whom he has received constant communication and support, have been open to his taking a day off should he need it.She has great fans who support her through soccer internationally or throughh her faith, he said.dddddddddddd I mean, just on Twitter, every day people are always saying theyre praying for her. ... So many people since Ive been back, they dont even ask how Im doing, they ask how my wifes doing. And to me, thats awesome. That just shows how great people are around us.Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said theres a good chance Holiday, a regular starter, wont be in the starting lineup on Friday as he acclimates to game conditions. Gentry said he will discuss the situation with Holiday at shootaround. Its going to be fine, Gentry said. Obviously its going to take a little while for him to get his timing back, from a basketball standpoint. I think hes in really good shape conditioning-wise and everything, but you have to actually participate and play in games to get your basketball timing.Holiday has maintained his conditioning by working out with assistant coach Jamelle McMillan and a strength and conditioning coach while away. The 2-10 Pelicans are in last place in the Western Conference, but Holiday said hes encouraged by what he has seen.I dont think our record shows how good we are, Holiday said. I do think we have a lot of effort there and obviously there are some games where we were there at the end of the game and we had it won, but [there are] some things that we have to clean up at the end of the game to seal the deal.I can do whatever they want me to do -- if its cheerlead, hand out Gatorades, play defense, call a set, whatever it is. Im just here to help.Holiday was limited to a combined 74 games in his first two seasons in New Orleans because of right leg injuries, but he broke through in 2015-16, averaging 16.8 points and six assists and a career-high 19.7 player efficiency rating in 65 games. His season was cut short after he fractured an orbital wall of his right eye during a game.Im so excited, Holiday said of his season debut. At the end of it my teammates are always there for me. My teammates and the Pelicans were always there. To come back and fight for them like they supported me, Im happy to do it.
